Collision Insurance

Collision insurance allows you to pay to repair any damages that have been inflicted on your car in the case of an accident caused by you.  Unlike other forms of car insurance, collision insurance is not required if you are the owner of your vehicle, but it still might be a good idea to have it, just incase.

So just who needs collision insurance?  For starters, people who don’t have ownership of their car.  Most drivers on the road aren’t the legal owners of the cars that they are driving, the bank is.  For most people it is to expensive and not practical to spend thousands of dollars on a new vehicle to own the vehicle outright, even a used one for that matter.  If you are going to be purchasing your vehicle through some sort of financing, chances are you will be required by your bank to have collision insurance before the loan is approved.

In the case of people who have paid for their vehicle outright, collision insurance is optional.  there is no requirement saying that you must have collision coverage on a vehicle that you own, but in some cases the added expenses are well worth the protection coverage.  For example, people who have long commutes to work or travel a lot for their jobs may see it as beneficial to have collision coverage.  The longer you spend on the road, the more likely you are to be in an accident, and if you are the person that caused the accident, collision insurance can help you pay for any damages to your vehicle.

It may also be beneficial for new drivers, or the owners of the cars of new drivers, to have collision insurance.  Young or inexperienced drivers are more prone to make mistakes behind the wheel, especially in heavy traffic conditions or bad weather.  When you are a new driver you have enough to worry about, so collision coverage can give you peace of mind that in the case of an accident that you caused, the damage to your car will be covered.

Any accident, whether it is serious or minor, can cause extensive damage to your vehicle.  Collision insurance gives you the peace of mind that if you happen to be in an accident, you know that the damage done to your car is covered and the money is not coming out of your pocket.
